Education

In 1974, the Erdenet mine was established to exploit copper and molybdenum deposits and address the social needs of builders and specialists from the Soviet Union. To improve labor productivity and work time utilization, and to provide educational opportunities for their children, a Russian school and kindergarten were established in 1978.

Additionally, the Training Center for Mining and Mining Specialist Training was established in 1975. Today, this center is recognized for training skilled specialists in mining and social sciences, research, design, and semi-production testing related to the technical and technological improvement of the EMC. It expanded into the Erdenet Complex higher education institution, offering comprehensive activities in Education-Research-Industry and focusing on employment.

275 children are enrolled in the 12th kindergarten, and 741 children are enrolled in the 19th secondary school. The Erdenet Complex higher education institution offers 16 undergraduate courses, 10 master's degree courses in cooperation with the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, and national and Cambridge international programs for grades 9-12 at high school, with more than 1,000 students studying annually. Additionally, HSE, foreign language, business development, and human development training are maintained for EMC employees, with 1,000-1,500 employees trained annually in various vocational training programs. From 2023, the Erdenet Polytechnic College will offer 3-year training for technical education in fields such as Mineral Processing Technician, Electrical Technician, and Mechanical Engineering Technician, and 5-year training for sub-bachelor degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering at Koosen College. In cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, 3-month skill improvement training for seven professions and temporary training for more than ten professions are being successfully organized.

Kindergarten No. 12 employs 23 full-time teachers, 21 of whom are foreign specialists. Secondary school No. 19 has 38 teachers, including 29 foreign specialists. The "Erdenet Complex" higher education institution has over 100 full-time and part-time instructors and teachers, including four Doctors of Science (Sc.D), 31 Ph.D. holders, and more than 70 qualified consulting engineers from Mongolia.

To enhance the exchange of educators and students for implementing international joint programs in teaching and research, partnerships have been established with Ural Mountain University of Russia, Ural Technical University, Irkutsk National Research University, Ulan-Ude School of Engineering and Teaching, Japanese Nagoya University, Akita University, Konkuk University of South Korea, Freiberg Mining Academy of Germany, Academy of Sciences of China, BGRIMM Group, Industrial University of China's Ministry of Education and Culture, and the "Belt and Road International Training and Research, Experimental and Research Institute."

On Resolution No. 321 of 2021 of the Government of Mongolia, it was decided to diversify and develop the Erdenet Complex University under the Mongolian University of Science and Technology in Orkhon Province in the mining fields and technology. On Resolution No. 293 of 2022, the branch school of Mongolian National University in Orkhon Province was merged with the Erdenet Complex Higher Education Institution.
